Who we are

Alistair Creevy

Hello and thank you for visiting our website. I am Managing Director of Independent Advisers (Scotland) Ltd and established Company in July 2003 after 25 years working in financial services. I have worked with major Life Offices such as Clerical Medical, Standard Life and Pearl Group in various management positions. I also served as Chairman for the Life Assurance Association in West of Scotland. I am currently a member of both the Personal Finance Society and The Institute of Financial Planning and am qualified as a Certified Financial Planner.

My main objective since I left the management side of the profession was to establish a practice which would provide a service and commitment to clients which I feel has been lost within the major companies and banks who are more interested in profit and sales driven.

It is probably best summed up in quote from the late President Roosevelt: 'People may forget what you said, they may forget how you spoke but they never forget how you made them feel'. Service is a word overused in my profession and so many promises are broken. I have built up my Practice based on honesty, integrity and professionalism.

Please feel free to contact me should you wish to discuss and review your financial goals and I look forward to being of service to you.

Paul McFadyen

My career in financial services began in 2004 after I graduated from the University of Strathclyde. Having worked for Abbey and Norwich Union in various administrative and customer service roles, I developed a good understanding of how things operate behind the scenes within the industry before progressing to become a Financial Adviser with Co-operative Insurance in 2006.

I joined IAS in 2009 in order to provide my clients with truly impartial advice from the whole market, to make sure I am able to focus on providing the very best value and customer service possible and to be free from the "sales culture" that is sometimes associated with larger insurance companies.

I hold the Diploma in Financial Planning (DipPFS) plus an advanced pension qualification, as well as the CeMAP (mortgage advice) certificate. I am working towards my Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning and Chartered Financial Planner status.

Since 2010, I have also been a qualified willwriter and member of the Institute of Scottish Professional Willwriters. I take great satisfaction from being able to offer wills and estate planning services to all of our clients, which is unfortunately still quite a rare additional service for financial advisers.

I have various interests outside of work including cycling, swimming, DIY and spending time with my wife and young children.

I completed a business degree specialising in international travel, but having enjoyed the finance part of the degree, decided to pursue a career in financial services instead.

I have been with IAS since 2007 and have developed from acting as a researcher and providing support to advisers to running the Glasgow office. I am also a fully qualified financial adviser, hold the Diploma in Financial Planning (DipPFS) and am studying to achieve my Advanced Diploma and then to become a Chartered Financial Planner.

I am also a fully qualified willwriter and member of the Institute of Scottish Professional Willwriters. We have found that our clients really value this extra service as it saves them the hassle of having to go elsewhere for these essential documents.

I have many years of experience helping people manage their money, both as a Certified Financial Planner and as a regular writer and broadcaster across a wide range of media.

When I'm not advising clients, I can be seen regularly on BBC Scotland's Reporting Scotland and heard on Radio Scotland advising on money and consumer issues. I was Woman's Own Consumer Champion for five years, helping hundreds of readers find solutions to their consumer problems.

I deliver advice in an imaginative, clear and easy to understand manner, cutting out the jargon and muddle often associated with the financial world. I take a no nonsense approach to helping consumers stand up to the poor service culture that exists across much of the UK today.

I have played the bagpipes all over the world and have recorded with Scottish folk bands Molindinar and Ceolbeg as well as with the Chieftains and Carlos Nunez. I have been involved in every Piping Live Festival since they began in 2002. I am also a regular speaker on the Burns Supper circuit, performing at the British Embassy in Rome and the Centro Asturiano in Barcelona with Tam O'Shanter and the Immortal Memory being particular specialities.

I joined Independent Advisers Scotland in October 2006, after graduating from Glasgow Caledonian University with a B.A (Hons) in Financial Services. I am a paraplanner which means that I conduct research and write reports on behalf of the financial advisers, as well as help with compliance. I hold the Diploma in Financial Planning (DipPFS) plus an advanced pension qualification as well as an advanced investment qualification.

When not working I enjoy watching films and regularly attend the cinema. I also follow my football team whenever possible.

I joined Independent Advisers Scotland in September 2012 in an administration role. This involves managing the day-to-day running of our clients' investments, ensuring that processess run smoothly and keeping the advisers and their clients up-to-date.

I have over 20 years experience in the Financial Services Sector, having worked mainly with independent advisers during this time, but also having specific experience of pensions during my time working with a product provider.  I hold the Financial Planning Certificate and a further pension related qualification. Away from the office, I enjoy hillwalking and am always trying to "bag" a new munro or corbett.

Derek Rush

I joined IAS in July 2014, having begun in the Financial sector in 2000, when I joined Abbey National as a Pensions administrator. Since then I have worked for Capita and Mercer in more client specific pension roles and I bring this experience to my role within IAS. I enjoy meeting clients and supporting their needs as I believe people want to be treated specifically to their circumstances, especially in today's busy society.

In my role I am the corporate client manager and work with our corporate clients dealing with Group Pensions, Auto Enrolment Pensions and Group Life Insurance, Business Healthcare amongst others.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family and take a keen interest in sport, although these days more watching than participating!

I have been working at Independent Advisers since 2005. My job entails administration duties as well as offering support to advisers. I am now dealing with accounts and general day to day running of office, which I enjoy very much.

Sarah Creevy

I joined Independent Advisers in 2011 as office administrator. My job involves maintaining our client files, keeping accounts up-to-date and making sure the office runs smoothly.

I am usually the first point of contact when clients contact the office and I really enjoy being able to help with enquiries or pass them to the relevant person.

When I'm not at work, I enjoy catching up with my friends after a busy week!

Angela Vickers

I joined Independent Advisers Scotland as an administrator in April 2015. I have gained my 20 years' financial services experience in both the banking sector and with independent financial advisers. I have a strong customer service background and understand that clients have differing needs and expectations. I always strive to provide excellent service.

Away from the office, I enjoy time spent with my family and especially my grandchildren.

Betsy Ritchie

Following a degree in I.T. and Accounting, I progressed into financial services. I have nearly 20 years’ experience with both private and corporate clients and have held a number of senior positions with leading independent financial advisors. I’ve also worked in the product provider side of the industry.

My role is extremely varied from day to day. As part of the Client Relationship Team, I ensure that the advisers are supported in providing the best possible level of service. I am involved in the research of solutions and in managing financial plans for our clients. I also monitor changes to rules and regulations, and ensure that clients are kept up to date at all times.

I’m currently working towards my Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning so some of my spare time is spent studying. I’m also a fitness enthusiast and love my spinning classes as well as taking time out through the year to travel with short city breaks and long haul trips.
